Success! Your camera and microphone are working and compatible with Pitchtape. Refresh the page to end the test.
STEP 1
When you arrive at the test page, your browser may prompt you to allow access to your camera and microphone. Click "Allow" in the pop-up notification. This is necessary for the test to check if your devices are functioning correctly. If the “Start” button is disabled, check your browser settings under Privacy or Permissions and make sure camera and microphone access is enabled for this page.
STEP 2
Click the "Start" button to begin the test. Our system will automatically detect your camera and microphone. You’ll see options to select specific devices if you have more than one connected. Note that Pitchtape standardizes all videos to 720p (HD) resolution, so this will be the only available resolution option. As the test runs, you’ll see a live video preview and audio indicators that show your microphone’s sound levels.
STEP 3
After the test completes, you’ll receive a success message if both your camera and microphone are working properly. The live video preview will continue to display, allowing you to confirm the video quality. If the test shows any issues, review our FAQ section below for troubleshooting tips or check your device settings to ensure everything is set up correctly.
If the Start button is disabled, it likely means that camera and microphone permissions have not been granted. Please check your browser settings under Privacy or Permissions and allow access for this page. Once permissions are granted, refresh the page and try again.
To enable access, follow these steps:
Chrome: Click the settings icon in the address bar, then select "Site settings." Set "Camera" and "Microphone" to "Allow."
Edge: Click the lock icon in the address bar, go to "Permissions for this site," and set camera and microphone access to "Allow."
Safari: Go to Safari > Settings > Websites, and adjust camera and microphone permissions under "Camera" and "Microphone" sections.
Firefox: Click the camera or microphone icon in the address bar and select "Allow" for both.
If you accidentally declined permissions, refresh the page to trigger the permissions request again. You may also need to manually adjust permissions in your browser settings by clicking the lock icon near the URL and selecting “Allow” for both camera and microphone.
If you’re not seeing your camera feed, try the following troubleshooting steps:
Ensure your camera is connected and not being used by another application.
Make sure your camera is selected in the device dropdown under "Camera."
Close any other applications that might be using the camera (e.g., video conferencing tools).
Restart your browser and try again.
If your microphone isn’t detecting sound, try these troubleshooting steps:
Make sure the correct microphone is selected in the device dropdown under "Microphone."
Ensure your microphone isn’t muted, either on the device itself or in your computer’s sound settings.
Check your system’s sound settings to make sure the input volume is turned up.
Test your microphone in another application to confirm it’s working properly.
Pitchtape standardizes all video recordings to 720p (HD) resolution. This setting ensures a consistent viewing experience across all applicants and reviewers. The resolution dropdown will display all resolutions on your device but will automatically select the 720p (HD) option.
If the dropdowns for selecting your camera and microphone don’t appear, it might indicate that permissions haven’t been granted. Try refreshing the page after enabling permissions in your browser settings. If the issue persists, check that your camera and microphone are properly connected to your computer.
For best results with Pitchtape, we suggest using your device’s internal camera and microphone. However, you may still be able to use external devices. Ensure that your external camera and microphone are connected before starting the test. Once connected, they should appear in the dropdowns under "Camera" and "Microphone," allowing you to select them as your preferred devices.
Lag or delays in the video preview may be caused by a slow internet connection or high CPU usage. Try closing any other applications that might be using a lot of memory or bandwidth. You may also want to test your internet speed to ensure it’s fast enough for video streaming.
If you’ve tried the troubleshooting steps and are still having issues, try restarting your computer. Occasionally, restarting can resolve access issues. Also, double-check that permissions are enabled for both your browser and operating system.
